End of Year Quiz 2007

31 December 2007

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?

I was interviewed, which was quite fun.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don’t think I made any last year, but I might make a couple this year (check back tomorrow).

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Nope (thank god).

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Sadly yes; I lost two grandparents within the space of a month which was pretty rubbish.

5. What countries did you visit?

USA and Finland.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

Depressingly, money. I’m quite hopeful though.

7. What date(s) from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Quite frankly, this year had a complete absence of truly memorable dates. Hopefully 2008 will be slightly better in this regard.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Being involved with this. Or possibly having a photo printed in NME.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Letting too many things get on top of me, and hence being too busy to do anything truly amazing. Also, I wish this hadn’t got so sidelined.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Nothing worse then a bad cold.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

My shiny new Canon EOS 400D (my iPhone was bought for me, otherwise it would probably be that).

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

Gabe and Tycho from penny-arcade.com, for their continued amazing charity work.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

Far too many people.

14. Where did most of your money go?

I really don’t know. Rent, bills and debt I guess.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

This and this, obviously.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?

It’s not a song I either own, or massively like, but 2007 was obviously all about Umbrella.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

happier or sadder?

Probably slightly sadder, but there’s not much in it. Confident for the future, though.

thinner or fatter?

Slightly fatter, although people still seem to think I’m skinny.

richer or poorer?

Slightly richer.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

I wish I’d actually gone to all the gigs I had tickets to, instead of being too lazy to go about half the time.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Stressing about things.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

I spent it at assorted homes.

21. Did you fall in love in 2007?

I already was.

22. How many one-night stands?

None.

23. What was your favourite TV programme?

Impossible to choose between Heroes, The Wire and ANTM.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Quite possibly, which sucks.

25. What was the best book you read?

‘Generation X’ by David Coupland (yes I know I’m a bit late for the party).

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?

I think Prinzhorn Dance School was probably the only thing I could really call ‘discovered’ (as opposed to found in a work related way).

27. What did you want and get?

A bit more traffic to this site, which was nice. I’m not ashamed about wanting traffic; everybody with a web site does, and anyone who says otherwise is either lying to you or to themselves.

28. What did you want and not get?

Super Mario Galaxy. God darn Wii stock shortages.

29. What was your favourite film of this year?

The Darjeeling Limited was superb.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I spent time with my lovely girlfriend, and I was a quarter of a century old.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Some things to have happened that are now going to happen (hopefully) in 2008, so I can’t talk about them. They’ll make 2008 pretty special though, so it isn’t all bad.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?

Bright colours, crazy socks.

33. What kept you sane?

This question revolves around the concept that you kept sane this year.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Noel Fielding. So?

35. What political issue stirred you the most?

The fact that we will have a un-elected Prime Minister for at least another year, and we still call ourselves a democracy. That and the fact that there’s now no party that I want to vote for, as they’re all rubbish.

36. Who did you miss?

No-one, that I can think of.

37. Who was the best new person you met?

Lots of people that would probably get embarrassed if I put them here.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.

Don’t automatically assume that everyone else knows what they’re doing; they don’t.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

“How come I end up where I started” – ‘15 Steps’ from ‘In Rainbows’ by Radiohead
