Resolutions
1 January 2008
Welcome, welcome one and all to this lovely shiny new year. Tempting as it is to say that I hope this year is a bit better then last year it’s a bit pointless really, as it’s all relative; every year is as good or bad as the last one, depending on your point of view.
I fear I may have started rambling a mere sentence in to this year, which could be a bad sign all told.
Anywho… resolutions! That’s what new years are all about really; well, that and predictions and quite frankly I’m rubbish at predictions – just look at last year’s MacWorld predictions which were pretty much all wrong (and contained the infamous line “iPod Phone: It certainly won’t be called an iPhone…”). Now, I’m not one for resolutions normally – I have a thing against arbitrary social customs – but this year I feel I’ve been slacking a bit so here goes…
Firstly, I’ve recently acquired a lovely new Canon EOS 400D DSLR to replace my lovely-but-constraining Canon Powershot G7. The main use for this will be gig photography – a useable ISO 1600 and the ‘nifty-fifty’ 50mm f1.8 prime lens will help massively – but I also want to get much better at taking photos generally. To that end, I’m going to have a go at project 365, which can be summarised simply as ‘take a photo every day for a year’. Anyone interested can take a look at my Flickr stream for my progress – hopefully it won’t turn into ‘365 pictures of things in my flat as I haven’t managed to take a photo until the evening when it’s too late’ but I have high hopes the enforced schedule will help with my inherent laziness.
Talking of inherent laziness and schedules, my other resolution is to get back on track with posting here. I know that talking about blogging is possibly the most boring thing you can do, so bear with me for a second. For the last few months the content here I think has generally declined, as has the quantity – I always aim for 5 posts a week, and recently I’ve been averaging about 4. Now I know this really doesn’t matter – 4 posts a week is plenty – but it’s the fact that I’m aiming for 5 and falling short that bugs me.
I think that’s about it really; I guess the theme for the year (and these resolutions) is ‘more work, more often’. I’m a lazy person at heart, so it could be tricky, but I do love the results and fun things that happened last year because of a little bit of hard work.
